Grandma Kendall

My sweet grandma Kendall passed away Tuesday, February 22. I knew this day would come eventually, but it is still hard for me to grasp that she isn't here on Earth anymore. I love my grandma Kendall so much and have so many great memories of her. She loved to clean and always had a spotless house. I loved when she would come stay with us while my parents were out of town because that would mean our house would get deep cleaned. My grandma only had 9 grandchildren, so she able to spend a lot of quality time with us. My favorite thing was our annual sleepover in the summer with all the granddaughters.

For the last 15 years she has been battling Parkinson's disease and it progressively got worse and worse. She lived in a nursing home for a bit, but about a year ago my mom was able to bring her home. I was able to take care of my grandma twice a week for about 9 months until I had Tau. I'm so glad I was able to spend that time with my grandma. I absolutely loved watching Keilani interact with my grandma. My grandma was in a wheelchair and had a hard time speaking, but Keilani thought she was the greatest thing ever. Keilani would climb up on her lap and sit there 10-20 minutes at a time. Even when I knew it was super uncomfortable for my grandma to have Keilani on her lap she would insist that Keilani stay there. Keilani would give her kisses over and over throughout the day.

We had her funeral last Friday. It was a great service and celebration of her life. As hard as it is to not have my grandma here anymore I know that she is in a better place, reunited with my grandpa, my aunt, her parents, and siblings who have passed on.

Here is her obituary:

Alice Jackson Kendall 1925 ~ 2011 Alice Jackson Kendall passed away peacefully at home, February 22, 2011, at age 85. My whole life I've been jealous of how cool your grandma was. I'm even more envious to see those pictures of her kissing Keilani. What could be sweeter?

She was an amazing woman, and I have been so impressed with how you and your mom and everyone else have so lovingly cared for her. What a celestial family!
