DAY 1: The Flight
We left for Hawaii on Saturday morning. My mom took us to the airport 2 hours early because I get anxiety if I don't get to the airport at least 2 hours before a flight. While waiting around to board I noticed that there were a lot of babies who also were making the trip to Hawaii. I think there were about 10 babies that were 6 months and younger. I was kind of glad that my baby wouldn't be the only one making noise on the flight. Anyway, the flight was full so Keilani didn't get a seat, so she sat on my lap. I sat in between TG and a nice Hawaiian guy. We were sitting in the middle section of the airplane and the air barley reached us, so the entire flight was extremely hot. We ended up striping Keilani down to her diaper because she was sweating buckets. Keilani did better than I expected. She slept a little, played a little, and toward the end of the 6 1/2 hour flight she started to get a little fussy, but she wasn't bad. TG's dad and brother, Tai, picked us up at the airport. My sister Alisa and her husband Chaz came an hour later, so TG's mom and sister, Tialei, picked them up. We all met at Costco and then headed to Laie. Once we got to TG's parents house it was 5:00 pm which was 9:00 pm in Utah, so it was way passed Keilani's bed time and it showed. I put her down and then TG, Chaz, Alisa, Tai and I went down to the beach. It was so nice to be back in Hawaii.
DAY 2: Mother's Day
Because of the time difference Keilani woke up at 5:00 am and was ready to play. Luckily we went to bed at 8:00 pm on Saturday night, so it wasn't so bad. The boys made an awesome breakfast for us. TG got me a new camera for Mother's Day and I was so excited because I've been bugging him about getting a new camera for months. Luckily my sister in law, Carli, is a camera goo roo and she helped him pick out a good camera. Thanks Carli! TG then went to the neighbor's house and picked flowers from their Plumeria tree and made me a lei for church. It was beautiful, but I didn't get to wear it too long before Keilani wanted to eat the flowers. Church was at 12:00 pm, so it felt like the day should have been almost over by the time we went to church. Church was nice, but it was right in the middle of nap time for Keilani, so she wasn't having it. That night we all took a walk down the beach. It was so nice. TG's sister, Tialei, put Keilani's feet in the water and she didn't like it one bit. TG's dad was so funny. He didn't want Kelani to get an ear infection, so he put her in his shirt and covered her ears. It was so funny.
Day 3: Waimeia and Matsumoto
On Monday we headed out to Waimeia. We went early because it is so hard to get a parking spot there. We found a nice shady spot for Keilani. TG took Keilani out to the ocean and she didn't like it at all. Probably because he just plopped her down in the water and didn't gradually take her in. We swam for a little bit and then Keilani fell asleep in her car seat. The boys went to the big rock to jump while Alisa, Keilani, and I hung out in the shade. About an hour and half later the boys hadn't returned, so I made Alisa go find them. She went to the rock and found them still jumping. They were having so much fun jumping off the rock, they "lost track of time." After Waimeia we headed to Matsumoto to get their famous shaved ice. It's the best because they put it on top of ice cream. We got home and we realized that all of us were fried. The boys got it pretty bad on their backs. It made it a miserable night for sleeping.
Day 4: Maunawili Falls
On Tuesday, everyone was burned, so we decided to take it easy. TG's mom took us on a hike to Maunawili Falls. Chaz and I forgot to bring tennis shoes, so we went in flip flops. Luckily the hike isn't too hard. The flip flops weren't too bad until we had to cross the water on rocks and then it got a little tricky. It was a great hike because it wasn't too long and it shaded by trees the whole way. When we got to the falls the boys jumped off the waterfall and us girls watched. On the way home we stopped at a korean bbq place and got some great dinner. That night TG's sister had a choir concert for her high school. All the performances were awesome. Keilani especially loved watching the performers sing and dance.
We borrowed this carrier from Carli and we weren't quite sure how it worked, but TG insisted that this is how it should go. It was funny because it didn't really hold Keilani very well, so TG was holding her the entire way to the waterfall. It wasn't until we were heading back that TG's mom figured out how the carrier worked.
Day 5: Sharks Cove and Acai Bowls
On Wednesday we went to Shark's Cove to go snorkeling. TG was excited because every time we've tried to go to Shark's Cove the waves have been too big to go in. This day the water was calm and it was perfect snorkeling weather. The boys, deciding to be daring, went to explore an under water cave. Alisa and I opted not to go. After snorkeling we headed to a little shack that sells smoothies and Acai Bowls. TG's mom told us about the place the last time we came and we absolutley loved them.
Day 6: The Polynesian Cultural Center
On Thursday we went to the villages at the Polynesian Cultural Center. It was a little overcast, so it was perfect. We first watched the canoe show where each island performs a dance on a boat. We then went to the Samoan village to watch the coconut and fire demonstration. This presentation is always my favorite out of all the villages. The Samoan guy who does the demonstration is hilarious.
Day 7: Waimeia and the Night Show
Day 8: Good-bye Hawaii
On Saturday we went to Pounders (a beach) one last time and I got pounded. The waves really weren't that big, but if you know me it doesn't take much to freak me out. Well the waves were getting bigger and I was getting a little panicked, so I told TG I wanted to get out. He tried to convince me to ride a wave on the boogie board, but I didn't want to. I decided I would try to run out of the water before a wave caught me. I was a little slow and when I looked back at where the wave was, I saw it coming after me. I didn't roll in the wave, it just threw me to the ground and dragged my bum on all the rocks. Everyone thought it was funny, but it really hurt. After the beach we went back to TG's parent's house and packed our things up. Our flight wasn't until 9:30 pm, but we headed to Honnolulu a little early, so we could meet up with TG's parents, who were shopping in town. Alisa and Chaz's flight was an hour after ours, so they helped us get through security and situated at our gate. It was so nice. Our flight was full again, so Keilani sat on our laps. TG was by the window and then I got to sit in the middle, lucky me. Keilani fell asleep a soon as we took off and stayed asleep the entire time. TG and I, on the other hand, were not so lucky. We both have a hard time sleeping on planes and didn't sleep at all. We had a little bit of a lay over in San Fransisco and then a short plane ride home. When we got home my sister Brooke made an awesome Sunday roast for us while TG and I took long naps. It was so nice. I had so much fun on this trip. I am truely grateful for my awesome inlaws who always do so much for us when we stay with them.
